May 6,2011 (ICW mile 536)Waited for a slack tide (never saw so much current in a river!) & backed out of our berth & headed north on the Beaufort River (Gardner really has it down pat now with the bow thrusters & the articulated rudder). It was hard to say goodby to such a beautiful city, with breathe taking parks & flowers. After slipping under the Ladies Island Swing bridge we ran by more of the Marine military operations (Parris Island). It started to rain (& continued the rest of the day) when we came into the (big) Cooshaw River. After about 10 miles we found our way into the Ashepoo Cooshaw Cutoff (the first of two, Rock Creek between them) Cutoffs tend to be skinny, narrow, shallow bodies of water that get you from one river to the next. Very challenging. We hit the Ashepoo River for a couple of miles, went through another cut (Fenwick) & came out into the South Edisto River. Atleast this river was wider. Went through one more cut (Watts) before we came into the Dawho River. That brought us into the North Edisto River & we started to look for our anchorage for tonight. We picked Toogoodoo Creek (ICW mile 495). Nice & wide, lots of water & we have it all to ourselves (Us & the porposies)
