May 2,2011 We left Birthday Creek, GA (ICW mile 611) & headed north up the Bear River. Passed through many different (shorter) rivers & started to come back into civilization (roads, houses, boat docks, etc.) Actually passed under a few bridges today (forgot how much fun that was) but none had to be opened for us. As we were approaching the south channel of the Savannah River we tried to go through the Elba Island cut. But we zigged when we should have zagged. Ended up sitting on a sand bar (with a few oysters thrown in) so we decided to use our Boat US membership. It did take a while for Capt. Frank to get us off the sand bar (had to wait a couple of hours for the tide to start to come in) But just like magic she started to float again & we soon were on our way. Thank goodness for Boat US!! We did have to detour slightly right after that when we tried to play with the big boys (two container ships were passing each other in the Savannah River & we were right in the middle of them!) Too much excitment ! Ran up the New River & Cooper River & picked our anchorage in a most appropriate place: Bull Creek by Hilton Head, SC.(ICW mile 565). Very peaceful. Looking forward to a good night's sleep.
