May 26,2011 Today was a first-we went through 3 states. We started (at 6am) in Chesapeake City,MD. We pulled our anchor (very quietly as most of the other boaters were still sleeping) & headed out of the boat basin & back onto the C&D Canal. Ten miles later we emptied into the Delaware River & eventually Delaware Bay (Delaware-second state) . It was a wild ride down the bay-waves 3to 5 feet and winds howling. It is a good thing we have a pilot house trawler. Passed quite a few lighthouses and only a few commercial ships. The morning fog never quite burned off so it was hazy most of the day. The radar helped to identify other boats & markers. We had entered the Bay at high tide in order to take advantage of the "kick" it could give us. It did help for awhile until the tide turned. We went from more than 8 knots down to 6 knots by the time we approached Cape May, NJ (Third state-NJ). To get to our marina (Canyon Club) we had to pass through the Cape May Canal & under a few bridges. It got a little hairy when we couldn't reach the marina by radio or by phone. Called another local marina and they advised us that our Marina had lost their power. But they were able to reach them & let them know we had arrived. After one attempt to put us into a smaller slip the dock master moved us to a bigger slip. Unfortunately, when we went to plug into shore power there was a problem with the voltage. A repair man came but it appeared the problem is on the boat, not at the station on the dock. Oh well, we're getting used to a new problem every day. We were able to get some laundry done & then walked down the road to enjoy a dinner at a waterfront restaurant. 58 miles today. Tomorrow on to Atlantic City.
