May 19,2011 Another thunderstorm blew through late last night with winds up to 35 miles per hour. Good thing we were in a protected harbor. Spent a lot of time wiping down the boat this morning to get all the rain off. Headed out about 9 am (waited for the tide to start to come in. The access to the harbor is a little thin-8 ft) Once we got out & back into the Chesapeake it was smooth sailing. We went from mark to mark (lighthouses & tall day markers) We saw the northern shores of the Rappahannock River, Fleets Bay, the Great Wicomico River, Tangier Island, Smith Point & cruised by the entrance to the Potomac River. Crossed over into Maryland (our 6th state) Saw lots of war planes overhead, great barge & tanker traffic and even a drone passing overhead. I think we're still in military country. After we went by Point No Point ( no lie, there is such a place) we found the entrance to the Patuxent River & our anchorage for this evening-Solomon's Island . It was little tricky winding our way through all the twists & turns in the creeks (Good thing they have lots of markers to help you find your way). We've never seen so many marinas squeezed into such a small area. This is a town we know from the Trawler Fest we had attended here. We also stayed here last November when we were looking at a boat to buy. It was like coming home (almost). Dropped our anchor , launched the dinghy & headed into town to do some shopping. Another thunderstorm came in so we decided to duck into the local chinese restaurant & wait out the storm. When we came out the sun was out! Didn't get much shopping done but did enjoy ourselves just getting onto land again. Tomorrow we expect to be in Annapolis & hope to hook up with our friendly Selene brokers-Chuck & Andrea. 55 miles today.
