May 18,2011 Pulled up our (muddy) anchor at 8 am & headed out of our little cove back into the Elizabeth River. We wound our way through the channels, past Portsmouth & Norfolk and finally, out into the Chesapeake Bay. I think we saw enough Navy warships for awhile. We then turned north up towards the western shores. It was cool, overcast, but the thunderstorm stayed behind us (most of the day) We saw lots of commercial boat activity, including a "stealth hovercraft" that belonged to the military. We passed Wolf Trap Lighthouse off of Winter Harbor. Continuing north we passed Mobjack Bay & headed towards the Rappahannock River. As we entered the mouth of the river there is a small creek (Jackson Creek) by the town of Deltaville (800 permanent residents, 3000 boats. Typical Chesapeake Bay town) Great little anchorage by the local marina & boatyard. Very friendly people. even had a guy from the marina come out to see if we got in ok through their (tight) channel markers. About 5 pm the thunderstorm that was chasing us all day finally caught up. But we were nice & dry inside our comfy trawler.Traveled about 50 miles today. No more ICW mile markers so we have to figure it out ourselves.
