May 13,2011 Awakened at dawn to find most of the other boats already leaving the anchorage. I quess we're not true "cruisers" yet. After a leisurely breakfast we pulled our anchor & headed north again on the ICW. The marine base (Camp LeJeune) had stopped their target practice early last evening so they didn't keep us awake. But they started up again in the morning & we heard them most of the day. We only had one bridge today that we had to wait for the 30 minute opening-Onslow Beach Bridge (even tried to convince the bridge tender to open earlier. No cigar) We guess we're lucky the marines weren't using the firing range on the ICW-they say the ICW can be closed for up to an hour when their practicing. We cruised by a few small inlets-Browns & Bear. After Swansboro we dumped into Bogue Inlet (big) that carried us up the Bogue Sound the rest of the day. We had called ahead to Morehead City (Portside Marina)& they were ready for us when we came into the basin. We had watched two pirate looking ships go by our anchorage this morning & we learned they are replicas of the Nina & Pinta, heading to a festival here in Beaufort,NC As we approached our marina we saw two huge navy vessels by the State Port Terminal. It turns out we're docked right in front of a carrier that returned yesterday with troops from Afghanistan. You can see we have friendly neighbors. Took a ride to West Marine & just relaxed for the rest of the day. We'll be tackling the Beaufort Inlet tomorrow. We're at ICW mile 205. Only 125 mile to VA.
