May 10,2011 Woke to a light rain shower at dawn. We did our first oil additive to the our John Deere Engine (Gardner was in the galley with the floor decking removed, pouring the oil into the engine & Caryl was down below in the engine room checking the dip stick so we'd know when we had added enough. Quite interesting) It was so peaceful in this little anchorage with all the woods around. We watched each of the other boats around us take off & by 8 am we,too, were under way-heading north again up the ICW. Our first challenge was to wait for the Socastee Bridge to open. 20 minutes later we were on our way.Thank goodness most of the bridges are taller than our 23 foot clearance needs. We glided past the million dollar mansions through Myrtle Beach & Holden Beach. Had the experience of requesting the Barefoot Swing Bridge tender to open for us (& the three boats behind us) All the bridge tenders are very polite. We were entertained by cable cars going right over our heads in North Myrtle Beach (Very big tourist area) Our boating excitement for the day was passing through Shallotte Inlet & Lockwood's Folly. Both were direct accesses to the Atlantic Ocean. Big difference from the quiet, calm of the ICW. Crossed the line into North Carolina at ICW mile 340. After a few canal passages we found our way to South Harbor Village Marina, right on the ICW at mile 311. We did have a little problem with our freezer today (a little too much rocking & rolling put air into the system). Once again, "Mechanic Gardner" resolved it. We're here for a couple of days to catch up on chores:groceries, laundry, finally fix the darn toilet & just relax. This was a 65 mile day so we're ready for a rest. Getting a thunderstorm tonight so we're glad we're tied up tight at the marina dock.
