July 16,2011 We did have 3 enjoyable & interesting days at Block Island. Our bike ride around the island was very hot, hilly & humid. That part of the island had not changed as much as the anchorage & mooring areas. Had a chance to try the water at Crescent Beach (good waves, but cold water) and met some nice "boat people". Dead Eye Dick's proved to still put on a great meal (of course, Gardner had lobster!) We had an interesting boat come into the pond-"Blue guitar" is Eric Clapton's boat. Didn't actually see him but did get a chance to get a good picture of it. Wednesday night turned out to be some what exciting. A thunder storm came up (just at dusk) and blew a small (uninhabited) lobster boat near us off of it's anchorage. Gardner saw it moving & Caryl called the Harbor Master just as it went into the sailboat anchored next to us. The Harbor Master & others came out right away & took the lobster boat to the Coast Guards mooring ball across the pond. In the morning we went over to see how the sailboat made out-didn't see any damage to the hull. The sailors thanked us for calling the Harbor Master. Later, the rescue boat had to come back & dive for the anchor that was still wrapped around the sailboat's anchor line. We took a leisurely cruise back to Watch Hill that afternoon (Thursday). We spent Friday doing chores (laundry, groceries, fueling up the dinghy) Just before sunset we were serenaded with bag pipes from the sail boat near us. What a nice surprise. As you can see it was beautiful sunset. We do love Watch Hill & are now feeling like it is really our "second home". We expecting a visit today from MaryGail, Caryl's sister-in-law, who just bought a cottage nearby. Jon, Mel & the kids are sailing here today (from Old Saybrook) for their week's vacation. Unfortunately, we'll have to leave them on Monday & return to Old Saybrook as we have many previously scheduled appointments. We plan to have some work done on the boat when we are at Oak Leaf Marina. Then we'll return to Watch Hill.
