June 1,2011 Another month on the calendar & we're finally getting back to Old Saybrook. Got a leisurely start (slept in late until 7 am) Enjoyed a nice breakfast, then pulled our anchor & headed back out into Long island Sound. Turned east towards New Haven, cruised by West & East Haven, Branford, Stony Creek,Thimble Islands, Guilford & set our mark for Falknor Island (Very hazy but we recognized all these familiar sites) Madison & Hammonasett were next and we knew we were getting close. Clinton Harbor (& Duck Island) came into sight & we could see Westbrook beyond. Soon the famous Saybrook Lighthouses were in our view & we really got excited. It felt so good to turn into the Connecticut river at the "outer light" & cruise past the "inner light" and Fenwick. We arrived at North Cove expecting to pick up our Son Jon's mooring line. Unfortunately it was designed to be used by a sail boat which only needs a few feet of line. We need a minimum of 15 ft. just to our bow sprit. So we dropped our anchor instead. We'll decide in the morning if we want to go into North Cove & pick up a guest mooring or not (We're used to being on the river at anchor). Tonight we expect to catch up with Jon, Mel, Reagan & Ian for some pizza. We haven't had a good pizza since we left Florida. 35 miles today.
