May 31,2011 Pulled away from the dock at Liberty Landing Marina just before 8 am. Headed out into the Morris Canal Basin & into the Hudson River. AS we slid by Ellis island we started to cross towards The Battery. Only had to dodge two Staten Island Ferries this time. The Waterway & Statue of Liberty Ferries kept going all around us as we turned past Governor's Island & headed up the East River. South St. Seaport was on our left, as well as the Financial District. There was a little less traffic as cruised along (north) by the East Side Drive. Zipped under many bridges-Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg, Queensboro, Triburough, Bronx-Whitestone & finally the Throgs Neck. The UN is under renovations & we almost didn't recognize it. The NYC skyline is probably the most memorable part of the day. Hell's Gate turned out to be a non-factor since we went through it just before high tide & had no problems. After the Throgs Neck bridge we were "officially" in Long Island Sound. It felt like we were almost home. We decided to travel a little bit further than planned so we went to Milford (CT-YEAH!!) & found a nice little anchorage behind Charles Island. We saw an old oyster boat heading in to dump their full load just as we came to Milford. 56 miles today. We are looking forward to peaceful, early evening so we can be full of energy for our last day to get to Old Saybrook.
